Want to Get More Out of Your DSLR?

Are you looking of a book to help you understand how to get the most out of your DSLR? I highly recommend that you read the Digital Photographer’s Notebook by Tom Ang. You can get it here from Amazon for around $17.

Each chapter covers a different facet of digital photography. Chapter One is an overview of the equipment required for photography and, even though the 3rd edition is three years old, it was a valuable overview. The second chapter is about the camera and taking the best shot possible. I firmly believe that it is better to take a good shot in the camera than to rely on trying to fix it in image post-processing.

The next chapter deals with various challenges of different fields of photography. I found the tips to make the best photos quite informative. The fourth chapter on scanners was probably the weakest. Maybe it was simply because I am shooting digitally and don’t have much interest?

Chapters 5 and 6 on digital manipulation and output processing more than made up for my flagging interest in Chapter 4. Ang provides an excellent overview of post-processing and output management. He clearly explains how to use the basic tools within your photo editor. You won’t be an expert in Photoshop, but you will know enough to get started.

Have you ever wished to improve your photographs? If so, this book is worth the investment.
